Israel had been at war for two years since the massacre of 7th October 2023. Since January 2023 a judicial rightist revolution began leading to an increasing social crises and widespread weekly protests al over Israel. It was entirely uncertain whether the Leaders’ conference would take place this year.
We were longing for a quiet place to share and calm down with our colleagues.
When it was eventually held, a question was asked in the opening circle:
“When you come here today to the Balint Seminar what do you leave outside and what do you bring from the outside to the group here today?”

Rebalancing Attention: Balint in a Fragmented Medical Culture

I want to begin with something that has changed for me. I have been involved in Balint work for many years. I have led groups, taught about Balint, organised Balint events, and spent a considerable part of my professional life thinking about what happens when doctors are given a space in which they can think differently about their work. And for much of that time, I think I had a fairly clear idea of what a good Balint leader did.
