Introductory lecture:
Anne Marie Pahuus on Løgstrup's concept of the ethical demand
Anne Marie Pahuus is a Danish philosopher, author, and lecturer at Aarhus University. Her work focuses on existential philosophy, ethics, and the conditions for human flourishing, with particular attention to trust, responsibility, and human relationships. She draws on the Scandinavian philosophical tradition and has written books and articles on the thinking of both Hannah Arendt and on K.E. Løgstrup.
In this talk, Anne Marie Pahuus explores K.E. Løgstrup’s concept of the ethical demand and its relevance for understanding human interdependence, captured in the conference themes of containment, commitment, and connectedness. At the core of Løgstrup’s philosophy is the idea that we always hold something of another person’s life in our hands. The talk examines how this fundamental condition unfolds in conversation and in professional relationships shaped by trust and responsibility. Pahuus connects Løgstrup’s thinking to the lived practice of supervision, highlighting how attentiveness and ethical sensitivity are essential to meaningful and responsible care.
